Arrived at 10.45pm having driven for 7 hours in terrible weather conditions, so a bit frazzled by then. Sign on the gate said press buzzer for entry after 11pm but was already locked so got out of the car & pressed the buzzer. Just heard a lot of crackling, no response as such but the gate did open. We thought some food and a comfy bed would await - but we were wrong. After standing with our bags for 3 or 4 minutes the receptionist finally bothered to check us in but her attitude made it plain our arrival was an irritation. We asked about food - most ibis hotels at least have a 24hr snack menu - not this one. We were met with a flat "no". We decided to have a drink. The barman did bring us a saucer of broken breadsticks. We later found some madeleines wrapped in plastic by the coffee station. Not that appetising but we ate a couple as we were hungry. Up to the room. Previous Ibis hotels I've stayed in have the extra comfort beds - but not this one. The bowler hat light fitting was covered in dust. The bathroom was not good - mould on the tile grouting, the shower tray clearly rotting, the toilet seat scratched and whoever thought that a glass door into the bathroom wouldn't be a safety hazard in the middle of the night has to be crazy. Most ibis hotels are relatively bland but they are functional and efficient. Here they have over concentrated on the motor racing theme to the detriment of the guest's comfort and experience. Would not choose this one again. Not particularly cheap for a poor experience either.
