We arrived in the evening and the rooms are ready when we checked in. It is a nice little hotel, a bit run down but nevertheless it is still good and we love the big toilet. We booked the 2 bedroom apartment and the rooms are spacious and clean. There is only 1 heater in one of the bedrooms. We had our dinner at the hotel and the food was good and so was the service. Breakfast is the standard basic spread but it serves its purpose.. so no complaints about that. Front office staff are very courteous and friendly.
Apart from having booked and supposedly prepaid for our stay on the Accor website two weeks prior our booking appeared not to have been transferred to the hotels system and resulted a delay at check-in whilst it was located, however we were upgraded to a room with two double beds which was much appreciated considering the hotel was fully booked. The room (722) was functional and the beds were comfortable, the in-house movies were also a hit. The shower was a little temperamental when trying to find the right temperature, and the ceiling above the shower-head appeared damaged. The key system is a little outdated and required you to carry a physical key and a swipe card for the access doors. On top of our welcome drinks, happy hour each night was very reasonably priced, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was very social. Dinner was also efficiently delivered and reasonably priced, my son was welcomed with a kids pack with crayons,. Breakfast was great, for the price we paid for the Room and Breakfast i was expecting it to only Continental however there was something for everyone including Beef Curry and Rice which my wife really enjoyed. All up, whilst we were only topping up 'Status Nights' we were impressed, and loved being on that side of town. It enabled us to conveniently explore the Bus Depot Markets with friends, go to a movie, Questacon and Fyshwick markets without the hassle of making each trip an expedition.
We now stay here regularly. Its consistent in all manners. Staff are great and very helpful on check-in. Rooms suit us very well whether is stay on business on with large family. Location is great and quite with excellent parking that's quite safe. this has become our favourite stay in Canberra which offers very good value and all that you need.
rooms, were perfect, clean, the layout was good, but the entrance door not suitable for someone with there hands-ful, or in a wheel chair, staff were very friendly and accommodating but the dinner food was bad and there was no structure in the restaurant, breakfast was average too next time we stay here ww will avoid the restaurant 100%.
We basically enjoyed our stay (we especially appreciated the inclusion of breakfast every morning), but were frustrated with the 'Smart' TV which needed to be reset by reception and often plastered 'Trial' in the middle of the screen while watching TV.
Because of the long weekend I was required to book two separate rooms over the 3 night stay. The first (Family Room) for two nights and a Superior room with two queen beds for the last night. We were told on Friday when we booked in that they would arrange for our second room to be ready when we needed to check out of the first so that we could simply move our things from one room to the next. The Family room itself was average. It was located in an old building, the white brick walls were cold and the unsealed vent in the bathroom blew in cold drafts making it difficult to keep the room warm without blasting the heating. The kids beds were good. Our Double (or queen) had a mattress that was well past its use by date and had the biggest roll together I've even slept on. My wifes back by the third night was in such a state she couldn't have stayed another night. By the time the third night and room move rolled around staff had no idea it was happening. My wife tried two or three times to explain our situation and ask if the room was ready but staff did not understand our plan initially. Eventually on the third time it was understood that we were moving rooms but we were told that the room would not be ready in time and we would need to wait several hours. We were able to get the keys (before the room was ready) to store our fridge items (which were birthday treats as we were having a birthday on that day) in the new room. I asked and was told that room servicing staff would be informed our items were there and not to have them removed. Later that day I was told they were indeed informed however we found our items were gone and never recovered. A shame as it put a bit of a black mark on our birthday celebrations. The second room - superior 2 queen bed - had obviously been through a much more recent renovation and was of a much higher standard than the first. The family room was barely 3 star in cleanliness and quality. This room was at the 4 star level the hotel was advertised at. Staff were friendly - although did not competently handle our room move very well as it seemed there was a lack of communication between them. Room entertainment was excellent - although the first rooms remote and TV was not working as intended. The second room was great. Breakfast was pretty good although at times it did take a while to have items replenished. Overall the first two nights 2 stars - the last night 4.5 stars.
The location was very convenient since we were traveling by car. Believe the hotel complex was more like a 1970's motel than an actual hotel. The staff was very friendly - helpful - professional. Our room and building it was in needs major updating.
Upon arrival we had nothing but problems with the television and wifi. The care shown by Kres, Stephanie and Debbie was exceptional to overcome our problems. The menu was the best we have come across at an Accor establishment for a long time.
Our recent 2 night stay at Ibis Styles Canberra Narrabundah was comfortable and a very good value package. Staff and amenities were good though I feel the “Smart TV” spoilt the stay by being unreliable and very user unfriendly. Were it not for Michael Aberle, the guest service expert this review would be scathing! He was helpful, courteous and adept in getting the TV functioning and making us relaxed and at ease at the same time.
Room could be cleaner especially the bathroom - shower!! The tv is very slow to go between channels . But it's in a great location and it's not to exspensive. The beds are comfortable Would be nice to have a gym close by.
We had to ask for air con control that was missing from the room. then we later discovered that the TV control was also missing. We gave up asking for a plug for the sink, and then there was no ironing board. We stayed three nights and ate 2 nights in the restaurant. The first night the restaurant was bad with smoke from kitchen . The second night had fish and chips , the chips were combination of chips and fries and the fries were over cooked that they could not be eaten. we did not want to eat in the restaurant the third night. The reception stay were helpful and friendly. As an Accor Plus member we were disappointed.
I did not want to post this review because I have always enjoyed my stay at Accor properties. But I could not find a convenient way to tell hotel management without doing it in such a public way. There were two downers with my room. There was no heating so I shivered. Then I found the shower was only luke warm....a great disappointment but I will continue staying at Accor properties.
Strong small of previous cigarette smoke in the room smelt poor and the deodorant didn't mask the bad smell of previous occupants cigarette smoking in the room. the air conditioner also when used had the same smell.
The staff were friendly and helpful to the delight of the customers and the location was just a short distance to major roadways to get you around quickly around Canberra. The rooms were above average for up to two people and provided a great place to relax after a big day at work.
Was a good experience. Bathroom should have heating. Movies werent working in my room and it was late to let someone know. But other than that a good room for a great price and close to shops and the city.
Nice place. All great but internet was very slow. Great value and breakfast filled our hunger despite a huge crowd. Just have some patience as staff are exceedingly busy. Staff are interesting and hail from many countries. The dominance seems to be back packers working their way around. their efforts are great but in some cases lacked much experience.
Overall I found this hotel quite satisfactory and I have stayed here before. However, some things could be improved. When first entering my room the smell from some sort of bleach-based cleaner was unpleasant and I needed to open up all the windows to help clear the air. I recall the same issue from my last stay. The bed was generally comfortable except for lumpy uncomfortable pillows. I chose to have one of their buffet dinners on one night - $30 but food rather disappointing. A room service meal the next night was better (though meals aren't brought to rooms, you need to go collect them). On my second night a very loud fire alarm went off at about 1.30am right next to my room (and continued ringing for about 20 minutes). I got up and prepared to leave my room. However, on going into the corridor there was not another soul about - guests seemed to ignore the alarm and there were no staff to offer guidance. In the end I opted to do the same as other guests and eventually went back to bed. I feel that had this been a legitimate emergency the hotel's response wasn't really good enough. However, despite all this the hotel is comfortable and clean - and moderately priced.
- All staff members are kind and very helpful - food served was excellent - Housekeeping staff are doing great job but still room standard need to be improved - value for money - hotel is at great location
The room was great-clean, tidy, as expected. But the service overall was lacking. The hotel was obviously full as the staff were not coping. We queued for check in which wasn't a big deal but after the nightmare drive, I would've appreciated a swifter process. But my real complaint was the included buffet breakfast. It was COMPLETE chaos. First-nobody told us the restaurant that did the breakfast was actually across the other side of the pool, in a different building. So we saw people sitting in the restaurant we were told about (near reception) & waited to be seated/attended to/acknowledged. Nope. Another diner informed us that the breakfast restaurant was full so this was actually just the 'overflow seating' essentially. Weird, but okay. We head to the breakfast restaurant, get checked off & then we walk through to peruse the breakfast buffet options. Well.. there wasn't much. Cereal-corn flakes or rice bubbles only, yoghurt, toast. No spoons though. I ate corn flakes with a fork-I'm not joking. And I wasn't the only one. We asked the only staff member we could find & were told the spoons were in the wash-for the entire time we were in the restaurant. Wtf. The hot options were pitiful. 6 Bain maries-mostly empty. Scrambled eggs-don't bother as they aren't seasoned and there was no salt or pepper in the restaurant. The bacon & sausages were fairly standard, but in very short supply. Baked beans are just disgusting & I don't know why anyone serves them in a restaurant-but that was also near empty, a clear sign of the desperation diners were experiencing. And then there were heat lamps illuminating empty platters. So yea, I sat down (at a table with a random family) with a slice of toast & cereal but realised I'd forgot to get cutlery/napkins. There weren't any. Like, seriously?! I was getting really pissed off at this point. I can understand getting understaffed, but most people had prebooked the breakfast-so why was it SO bad?? I shouldn't have to hassle the sole waitress four times just to get a fork. It's not her fault, she's a single person & obviously can't be everywhere. No, this is firmly on the management that clearly didn't want to pay the staff to work on a public holiday. Its not fair to your customers-many, many people were annoyed! But it's also unfair on your staff, I'm sure they were trying to do their work as best they could-not helped by customers coming into the kitchen pleading for a bloody spoon!! Get the basics right.
We had a lovely stay at this hotel and would recommend it to friends and anybody who is planning a trip to Canberra we stayed from the 4th to the 7th of April . The staff were friendly and very helpful and we appreciated our talk with Debbie Sheilds on the day of our departure. Restaurant and breakfast meals very good. Planning another trip there later this year and will endeavour to stay there again, Angus & Paula Macdonald.
