I recently stayed at an Ibis Styles Hotel in Munich, Germany and was delighted with the concept with a spacious super clean room, trendy furniture and free breakfast and wifi. Based on this positive experience, I booked the Suzhou hotel even though I had no intention of going to the nearby amusement park. Unfortunately what I found was a great disappointment. The room was tiny, dirty and very cold, the bathroom especially dirty. We couldn't work out how to operate the heater which is also the aircon because the remote is only labeled in Chinese. All the TV stations were in Chinese. On either side of the bed were two holes that had been taped up where bedside lamps had once been mounted. The TV and aircon remote controls were dirty and worn. Breakfast was mediocre at best, no taste, no juice, no coffee. We were so unhappy we cancelled our 3 remaining nights and moved to another hotel. The only redeeming point was the staff who were very helpful even though only one spoke English. The latter efficiently processed our cancellation with no fuss and ordered us a taxi. Also, on the way out I noticed the subway station is within walking distance to the hotel (probably a ten minute ride to the city at a cost of no more than 2 Yuan).
