If I had been reading the reviews of this hotel 2 years ago I would not of gone near it. It was the review of a fellow traveller who pointed out that it had been refurbished and if you were seeking a ‘pit stop’ in fitted the bill. Our trip was different; we were visiting the area of St Emilion and wanted a base. The first thing that struck us was the friendliness of the staff at reception and the level of welcome we received. The rooms, are just a little smaller than other rooms we have stayed in, though, the bed could be a factor as a double is actually two singles put together and does account for taking up a lot of the space. The bed was very comfortable; the sound proofing of the room was above average. The cleanliness of the room and en-suit was impeccable, if housekeeping was a problem before, it certainly is not one now. The hotel restaurant is a very new modern affair, sadly it was closed the Friday and Saturday night we where there. The menu is small, thus, this should tell you that the hotel is mainly for business people or the odd week-ender. There is a blackboard serving a daily special in addition to the menu. A 3 course meal of the day runs at about €15 and an entrecote steak is €16. Now compare this to a plate in one of the St Emilion cafes; such as a €32 plate of rice and veal, well, you work it out. Car parking is not a problem. Access to St Emilion and Libourne is also not a problem, depending on the time of day. The bottom line is this, if you want a hotel that is clean, quiet, friendly, helpful and at a reasonable price then stay here, if not, then go and empty your wallet in St Emilion.
