We always tend to go for Ibis hotels for city centre breaks as we know we are guaranteed a great night's sleep in the fantastic beds, good sound-proofing and great showers. Rotterdam did not disappoint. Its location was ideal as the main purpose for visiting was to catch up with friends and we were only a couple of minutes' walk from Blaak Metro station which we used to get to them, plus we could walk to a number of areas including Oudehaven which offers a number of bars to relax at.
Other points in this brand's favour are the online check-in so you just walk in and collect your key and the express check-out where you just have to leave your key, having had your final invoice e-mailed to you so you can check it. When we arrived, we noticed our departure date hadn't been amended in line with an earlier e-mail but this was quickly rectified. Indeed, all the staff we dealt with were very welcoming and friendly.
I'd like to make a couple of points but these are just ideas for improvements. Firstly, in the Ibis hotels we have used in the UK we have always had tea and coffee making facilities in the room. We did find out from the in-room information that we could request a kettle from reception, but we had not packed any tea bags. Just creature comforts we Brits would appreciate! Also, most people on city breaks these days travel with only hand luggage so cannot bring shaving equipment. Reception could offer a variety of complimentary toiletries, but maybe you could consider adding a razor to this. We were able to purchase a pack of 4 from a local supermarket but this meant we had surplus items to dispose of before we left. Just a thought.
I'm sure we will be back.
