Check in was fast an easy, and the women who checked us in was very helpful and efficient.
The hotel room was newly redone, and quite nice. The 'spacious shower' advertised on the ibis budget site however is at best an exaggeration. The entrance to the shower also had a serious leak and mildew problem that looked like it had been painted over several times, but never repaired. As a whole however the room was comfortable and very well taken care of. The air conditioner was effective, and the duvet very comfortable.
Service after check-in is where this hotel strikes out. There is no phone in your room, and the phone on my floor was broken.... So down to reception just to request a 3rd towel and 3rd pillow (the room was booked for 3 people). The towel wasn't a problem.... The pillow however we were told wasn't available because the maid was busy. After waiting 4 hours (so much for the ibis 15 minute promise) and a 2nd request the pillow was finally sent to us.
In the lobby, I unfortunately spilled a coffee that I had just paid for, directly in front of the person who served it to me. The person pointedly pretended not to notice until I asked for some paper towels to clean myself up. At which point he informed me that they didn't have any. I suggested there might be some in a bathroom, and he said yes, and when it was obvious he was not going to offer any assistance I asked where the bathroom was so that I could retrieve for myself the previously unavailable paper towels. I realize that I'm knit-picking here, but really... It's a hotel, and the staff is there to provide some reasonable services. It would have also been nice to have been offered a 2nd coffee without paying... but this wasn't to be my day.
The area the hotel is located in is extremely dangerous, especially for tourists. My group was assaulted (once physically, once only attempted) twice during the 2 day stay by thieves within 1 block of the hotel. Granted the hotel has nothing to do with what happens outside of it's walls.... But if you stay there, I'd advise taking a taxi to a more tourist friendly area of the city. I was under the impression that the local trouble makers were specifically watching for people who left the hotel on foot.
