The Ibis Lugano Paradiso is, as the name suggests, in a suburb of Lugano called Paradiso. This should not put people off as it is close to all the facilities needed to have a successful holiday. The hotel, itself, is modern and part of a building sharing 3 different standards of Accor hotels. The rooms and facilities are those you would expect to find in an Ibis hotel. It has very comfortable, upgraded beds. The breakfast room is light and airy and provides a good choice of continental style breakfast. The staff are very good and very helpful all the ones we came into contact with spoke good English as well as German, French and Italian. Being out of Lugano the hotel offered very good value for money in a generally expensive part of Switzerland. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from Paradiso station (2 minutes by frequent train to Lugano); just across the road from the funicular to Mt San Salvatore; 5 minutes from the lake and the Paradiso landing stage and close to the bus stop for the number 1 bus along the lake shore to Lugano center or the number 2 bus via Lugano main station and the funicular to Monte Bre. We took advantage of a Ticino Discount Card (not available during the winter months). For 87 Swiss francs it gave use 3 days out of 7 travel on most buses, trains, boat services, mountain railways and cable cars in the Ticino area as well as free or discounted entry to numerous attractions. Swiss Minature at Melide is particularly worth a visit - and not just with children. In the area of Paradiso there are a number of restaurants with plenty more in Lugano itself. It takes about 20 minutes to walk into the town following the lake shore. All in all the hotel Ibis Paradiso represents a good value base from which to explore this wonderful area with or without a car.
