We found a dead cockroach under our bed. Our booking was messed up and it took us 30 mins to check in. In fairness we were given a free drink for our wait. But we paid $314 for a room with nothing when we'd just come from Sydney where we paid less for a 5 star hotel right on the harbour. This really was a rip off

Spare time for check in and check out, do not expect more than standard. Overvalue for room only because of the location. The reception desk only one person at check out time in high season. The room nothing special.

A couple of negative points from our stay: – We had to wait for more than half an hour just to check in, a lady cut in line and the staff just ignored me who had been waiting and served the lady instead. I'm aware that I can check-in online but I still expect more efficiency and better service from the staff. – We had asked if we can extend our stay for another night and stay in the same rooms. We were told that it would be completely fine, only to be called by the staff the next day and told that we couldn't, and with no confirmation on where the room will be. In the end, we only had to move next door which was fine, but it should have been communicated since the beginning if we had to move. The positives: – The staff was very polite and helpful throughout the whole stay however I got the impression that the majority of the staff are either new or inexperienced, which resulted in poor service. – Location was perfect, it was within walking distance to the lake – Room was clean, bathroom was well stocked

Reception was good, my room was clean with complimentary bottled water, buffet breakfast was great for $1, including juices, coffee and good selection of hot food. I would dine in next time and try the burger special. Checkout was prompt and off road parking was easy to access from the basement.

We had 2 rooms and 4 adults. We had a short but pleasant stay. We wanted a smile weekend break in Rotorua and we are very happy we choose the IBIS.Being close to the novotel for their buffet was excellent value.

Great place to spend time in Rotorua. Price is affordable and room is clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. Location is great, near the lake and close to shops. Breakfast menu was ok but not excellent.

We were welcomed with a complimentary drink and advised about facilities we were able to use at the Novotel as Le Club Accor Silver members. The young lady on the desk was excellent and most helpful thank you. The room and the bed was absolutely fine so no complaints at all. Handy to everything and with a pleasant outlook.

Very disappointing. Went to check in at 2pm on a Fri afternoon and told my room not ready. After a 15 min wait was given a different room. This was not the double room I had booked for my husband and I and had a child's bed in the corner. Went back to reception and another ten min wait. Receptionist tried to get someone to remove bed from room but to no avail and we were made to feel it was an inconvenience. Given keys to another room and same deal, a child's bed in corner. This was supposed to be a romantic birthday with my hubby so really disappointing. At 2.40 we had no resolve and we went back home to Tauranga. Disappointing as we had a meal booked that evening and were meeting friends which was totally ruined. On top of that the two rooms looked pretty shabby, beds not made properly and looked lumpy. Rooms felt 2.40 there was still laundry and rubbish littering the corridors. The girl on reception did not even offer us a drink whilst we were waiting nor offer an upgrade, such sad customer service nowadays. She could not even confirm that my account would not be deducted and did not have the courtesy to ring me after and let me know. I was very polite with her and i was the one who ended up apologising that i couldnt wait any longer. So sad as I love the Ibis in Hamilton and stayed there heaps of times and would give five stars. This one in rotorua is substandard and a joke.

Awesome location - close to Eat Street and bars. Great service. Clean and tidy. Also near lakefront and easy walk to town. Friendly staff. Breakfast was included in deal so this was a good value overnight stay.

We slept in after late arrival from long flight from the UK. The kitchen staff kept the breakfast bar open for us. Excellent! Top marks to the reception and dining room staff. Great to see happy people at their work.

Room clean and tidy nice view Pillows very soft and needed more of them! and not enough towels either Staff friendly and happy to help when light did not work Breakfast could have been warmer (plates cold)

first, there is no "real" lobby entrance for the hotel, so you need to park at roadside to drop your luggage check in then only can go down basement for parking. second, the room air-con not functioning propoerly as the weather is quite cold when we arrive so i turn on it but cold air coming out even we turn the temperature to 30, so at last we switch it off, even better. third, im glad we have a free entrance to the hot spring spa pool in novotel just next door but there is no indoor or shielded pathway connect to the hotel so you need walk in a cold outdoor to reach novotel then walk back after you have your pool section, is chilling. final, basically the hotel itself dont have any facilities, you need to go novotel, so my opinion is better book novotel which the price not much different. this is the worst hotel i stayed in NZ comparing within the same range, so i do not recommend to stay.

I was without Wifi connection for my entire stay. Staff were unwilling or unable to solve the problem. For me having wifi connection is high priority as I need to receive and answer emails. So, I will not book again in the Ibis Rotorua.

Very good position of hotel, close to town centre and walking distance to eat street. close to lake nice view. not happy on the cleanliness as infrastructure means carpet and like other things bit old and dirty.

Stayed here many times and find it better than the average Ibis. Friendly staff, clean rooms, hot powerful shower and a great location close to the town and lake. Previously enjoyed happy hour in the small lounge area beside the dining room but this time both happy hour and the lounge area had gone, oh well I suppose nothing stays the same.

Hotel clean and comfortable, plenty of free parking, but the wifi is so poor as to be virtually unusable, despite complaining, the IT dept were unable to make the system better, local free wifi in Eat Street was lightning fast

Staff were very nice and the hotel is good value. Use of services at the other hotel next door also. Basic hotel and perhaps a little tired but as I say good value. Porridge could be better! Location really good, close to all bars etc

We have stayed at the Ibis before and this time I was not very impressed, a bond was put on my credit card, where in the past it had never been then on the day of check out - Room service was knocking on the door repetitively from 0930 onwards wanting to clean the room. We had 11am checkout so I felt this was very poor service from the Ibis.

We checked in with no problems. The hotel staff went above expectations and explained the amenities available. There was access to the sister property Novotel next door. They had some geothermal mineral pools which we were able to use. That was really a great surprise which enhanced our stay.

The beds in the Ibis and Novotel are not comfortable, we like the Ibis and Novotel hotels however all we have stayed in have uncomfortable beds the Millennium have very comfortable hence we make them first to stay .
