When my wife went to Hamburg in February, and had a look to see where this hotel was and what it was like, she was told that it was just being refurbished and would be completed just before we were due to stay there. The person on reception was eventually helpful and offered to show her a room that had been completed. The new room was clean and appeared fit for purpose. When I made the boking, I requested 2 smoking rooms next to each other if possible as my son and his fiancé would be with us. We checked in about 6 pm and there was only one smoking room, and my son's room was down the hall from mine. There are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room, the toilet is smaller than an old style English telephone box, the shower door did not shut properly as water leaked all over the bedroom carpet, one the window hinges was broken so the window did not open properly to the wonderful view of a flat roof and another wall. The receptionist did speak English which was helpful, and did come to help me once when I was waiting at reception, but seriously needs to go on a customer service course. If the room we were given had been refurbished, their new design need to urgently be reviewed. I have spent the last 12 years managing budget hotels in England, and they are like the Dorchester in comparison. If you do stay there, do not accept room 317. I would never recommend Ibis budget hotels to anyone.
