An overnight stay visiting family in both Sheffield and Chesterfield, an ideal location, great value. Rooms clean and comfortable. Bar and food menu reasonably priced and good choice. Overall very pleased.

It's such a pity: everything was fine except a lack of a welcoming approach from staff and the dreadful night's sleep...which are kind of key things in the hotel business. The noise started at 5am with early risers talking and shouting outside our ground floor window (double-glazed but didn't shut properly so let any and all noise straight in). The noise then progressed to doors being allowed to slam in the corridor (maybe they are too well-sprung), guests knocking on each others' doors, and furniture being dragged across the floor above us. I have stayed in many hotels worldwide and have never experienced such a badly soundproofed room as this. This is about badly fitting windows and doors, and guests who obviously need reminder signs (multilingual) going up about courteous behaviour towards fellow guests. The leaflet in the room talks about the Ibis sweet bed guaranteeing a good night's sleep in a soundproofed room - that last part desperately needs addressing as it is currently just not true at Ibis Barlborough. I do hope this is addressed as we have enjoyed many a stay here before, when the hotel has been less busy perhaps. However, it shouldn't be the case that it's only okay to stay in a hotel if there aren't many other guests there! That's a hotel building that's not fit for purpose then, isn't it?! Trouble is, I remember giving a very similar review a year ago - so disappointed that nothing has been done. We are now going to have to find a different hotel for when we stay en route to seeing family, after 11 years of staying here. I would highly recommend that a Qualities Manager spend a night here (try room 7), on a busy night, and experience the soundproofed rooms for themselves. Perhaps some first hand experience would help with identifying the problems re the soundproofing, or lack thereof.

Have stayed here frequently over the years finding constant improvements, for example the latest incarnation of beds and bedding are super comfortable. Staff are always very helpful, and offered a change of room when the first was immediately opposite the lift! As usual we requested additional towels for the 2 of us to add to the one hand and and one bath routinely provided. Had continental breakfast with great service from a very helpful young man - but what run out of marmalade? Not having to vacate until 12.00 also advantageous for a leisurely start to the day and later onward travel.



Basic but functional, very clean...however the bed was very squeaky....!!! bar was not very welcoming but the harvester pub next door did a very good pint...!!! we just wished the bed was a bit more premier inn than pallet wise........!

Stay here when visiting my dad. great location for the M1 motorway. Suits us very well. Always friendly and efficient staff. Haven´t taken advantage of eating there yet, as normally organising something for Dad.



One man and his dog were very happy on their weekend away.The room was warm and comfy the staff friendly Breakfasts excellent and the location very good for my plans to visit Chesterfield Sheffield and Derbyshire.



Noisy person above me ruined my stay heavy footsteps and made my room shake at 5.10am room tired and marks all on the LLW and stains on settee breakfast ok but staff not quick in clearing tables after use had a half board deal but charged me for a bowl of chips.......never again

WE had an excellent overnight stay once more at Barlborough Ibis. Staff as helpful and as friendly as ever - will never forget their kindness to us on a previous occasion when my husband was really poorly. We tried the food this time and it was great!



Very friendly staff, great location for visiting Derbyshire area as it is very close to major road network. Unfortunately we were woken early both mornings (04.30-05.00) by numerous contractor personnel loudly chatting outside in the hotel entrance which is also the designated smoking area. Hotel requires a separate smoking area away from entrance and maybe "quite please" type signage around building or monitoring by staff. Would stay again but only in a room at the rear of the hotel



The only fault that I can find with this hotel is the absence of hand towels. As a senior citizen I cannot handle the very large bath towels that are provided. Other than that everything is fine and it is good value for money



An excellent stay: clean and comfortable room, friendly and professional staff. We were, however, concerned by the remodelling of the reception area. The new open-plan layout appears to compromise the security and comfort of the staff and may be confusing to visitors from mainland Europe where, based on our experience in Ibis hotels in a number of countries, a more traditional layout with a reception desk is expected. We were particularly concerned by the implications for older, physically handicapped or pregnant reception staff. The reception staff are required to be on their feet all day and have to twist and bend to use the equipment which is likely to make their working conditions uncomfortable at times..

This was our third stay here, but things have changed. No check in desk, just have to wait for a member of staff with a tablet to help you check in. Obviously this reduces staff levels, but although staff were helpful, I didn't find this to be a satisfactory way of being welcomed. Also had to find member of staff to handin room key card at end of stay.

Have visited this hotel several times over the past three years and find it is good value for money. That said, however, I will reserve judgement on the decision - perhaps group-wide - to do away with a reception desk and instead get checked in by staff walking around with either tablets or smartphones in their hand. There was something reassuring about standing against a desk after a long drive. The hotel has also taken out telephones from guest rooms. That can mean a trip from perhaps the third floor to a 'reception' area on the ground floor to raise an issue when in the past all you did was to pick up the phone and dial 0. Not great customer service I suggest.

Very pleased with our stay for 3 nights. The staff we met were very pleasant and helpful. We had a small problem with noise coming from the room (not a bedroom) next door the first night, but within 10mins it was fixed, so we slept well for all of our stay. The room we were given, was with disabled access on the ground floor because of our little dog, but it was fine especially as I was using a stick at the time.

Not been here for a few weeks, but the hotel staff still remember me and my preferences. Friendly staff, good clean room, high speed wifi and hot food well served. Good night's sleep in a comfy bed - whats not to like.

Very enjoyable stay, excellent breakfast and value for money. All staff were very welcoming and helpful. I would certainly recommend this hotel as a very resonable hotel with a good location close to the Moterway and the Peak District.



my only downside to my visit was the quality of the chair in the room. It was a wooden only construction and not comfortable to sit on for a long period. the room itself was excellent, and all needed for my visit.



Generally pleasant stay, room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was good but Bar was very expensive. Ample parking right next to hotel was great, along with the close proximity to food retailers and shops.



Hotel scrupulously clean and quiet. Staff courteous and communicative. Breakfast choices plentiful and good. End of day meals disappointing and really only suitable as bar snacks. If intending to eat a main meal at the end of a journey I would opt to go elsewhere for it. A good budget hotel.



Always a friendly welcome whenever I check in. All the staff are very helpful Rooms are spacious beds are comfortable And the restaurant is excellent value for money with good tasty food Good wifi throughout the hotel
