Very friendly staff, great location for visiting Derbyshire area as it is very close to major road network. Unfortunately we were woken early both mornings (04.30-05.00) by numerous contractor personnel loudly chatting outside in the hotel entrance which is also the designated smoking area. Hotel requires a separate smoking area away from entrance and maybe "quite please" type signage around building or monitoring by staff. Would stay again but only in a room at the rear of the hotel
The only fault that I can find with this hotel is the absence of hand towels. As a senior citizen I cannot handle the very large bath towels that are provided. Other than that everything is fine and it is good value for money
An excellent stay: clean and comfortable room, friendly and professional staff. We were, however, concerned by the remodelling of the reception area. The new open-plan layout appears to compromise the security and comfort of the staff and may be confusing to visitors from mainland Europe where, based on our experience in Ibis hotels in a number of countries, a more traditional layout with a reception desk is expected. We were particularly concerned by the implications for older, physically handicapped or pregnant reception staff. The reception staff are required to be on their feet all day and have to twist and bend to use the equipment which is likely to make their working conditions uncomfortable at times..
This was our third stay here, but things have changed. No check in desk, just have to wait for a member of staff with a tablet to help you check in. Obviously this reduces staff levels, but although staff were helpful, I didn't find this to be a satisfactory way of being welcomed. Also had to find member of staff to handin room key card at end of stay.
Have visited this hotel several times over the past three years and find it is good value for money. That said, however, I will reserve judgement on the decision - perhaps group-wide - to do away with a reception desk and instead get checked in by staff walking around with either tablets or smartphones in their hand. There was something reassuring about standing against a desk after a long drive. The hotel has also taken out telephones from guest rooms. That can mean a trip from perhaps the third floor to a 'reception' area on the ground floor to raise an issue when in the past all you did was to pick up the phone and dial 0. Not great customer service I suggest.
Very pleased with our stay for 3 nights. The staff we met were very pleasant and helpful. We had a small problem with noise coming from the room (not a bedroom) next door the first night, but within 10mins it was fixed, so we slept well for all of our stay. The room we were given, was with disabled access on the ground floor because of our little dog, but it was fine especially as I was using a stick at the time.
Not been here for a few weeks, but the hotel staff still remember me and my preferences. Friendly staff, good clean room, high speed wifi and hot food well served. Good night's sleep in a comfy bed - whats not to like.
Very enjoyable stay, excellent breakfast and value for money. All staff were very welcoming and helpful. I would certainly recommend this hotel as a very resonable hotel with a good location close to the Moterway and the Peak District.
my only downside to my visit was the quality of the chair in the room. It was a wooden only construction and not comfortable to sit on for a long period. the room itself was excellent, and all needed for my visit.
Generally pleasant stay, room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was good but Bar was very expensive. Ample parking right next to hotel was great, along with the close proximity to food retailers and shops.
Hotel scrupulously clean and quiet. Staff courteous and communicative. Breakfast choices plentiful and good. End of day meals disappointing and really only suitable as bar snacks. If intending to eat a main meal at the end of a journey I would opt to go elsewhere for it. A good budget hotel.
Always a friendly welcome whenever I check in. All the staff are very helpful Rooms are spacious beds are comfortable And the restaurant is excellent value for money with good tasty food Good wifi throughout the hotel
Once again a warm welcome, everything ready for me including room key, nice clean room (where I had asked for it) , good WiFi, reasonable choice of food - all well cooked and helpful staff. I shall be back again!
Once again the staff here are exceptional, hotel has a informal home from home feel to it, we stay here at least twice a year, no complaints, reason for the 3 star on the room, I think the rooms are looking "tired" & in my humble opinion need up dating.
Went to Balborough at this time of year to deliver Christmas presents to relatives and friends Good pub next door which has good beer and sells good food at a reasonable price. For breakfast we went to Costa which was also on site. The Ibis was reasonable. We stay here on a regular basis as it is one of the cheaper Ibis hotels in the area.
Have stayed here many times before, hotel usually good, location good, but room this time not so good.Awful urine dirty smell in room but on spraying the room with deodorant and opening the window for a while, all was okay, no safety chain on the door, curtains looked old and snagged in places, also not on the track properly, five tiles on the bathroom floor in front of the shower all cracked and broken, also shower tray had been cracked and tried to put sealant on it by the plug hole, carpet needed cleaning. On this occasion the room was very disappointing and probably should not have been used.
As usual this was a very comfortable experience at this location. On arrival a slight booking issue was quickly resolved by Hilary who was marvelous. The room was comfortable and the bed as always very comfortable. The food choices were good at both dinner and breakfast
I would strongly recommend this hotel. The staff are excellent and so friendly. Service in the restaurant was great and the food rally good quality especially the breakfast. close to Peak District so excellent base for walking and touring holidays.
Stayed here whilst visiting my brother. On arrival staff were friendly and hospitable and check in was a breeze. We found the hotel to be great value for money bed comfortable resulting in a great nights sleep, breakfast was good with a varied selection of foods, loved the egg boiling device. Will definetly stay again and recommend to others.
This is an out of the way Ibis, but I thought it was convenient for me to be picked up by colleagues travelling down the M1. I booked online and indicated that I would arrive late. The people I met at Barrow Hill Roundhouse knew the hotel as the Barlborough and dropped me off after dinner. I provided my colleagues with the post code from the website S43 4TX so that they could put it into the satnav and pick me up in the morning. They texted to say they were nearly there and then again to say that they couldn't find me and that I must have mistyped the post code. I informed the receptionist and she said "Oh we have 2 postcodes! That one does not work in the satnav, you have to use the one on this business card S43 4WP. Once I gave my colleagues this post code they could find me. Be careful putting in the right post code. Checking the website this problem seems to have been rectified, well done the receptionist. The barman was also very pleasant.
