Room was ok. However the arrangements around the provision of dinner were shocking. Initially I was advised there were two options either a short simple menu in the Ibis itself or a fuller menu in the Novotel. I opted for the simple menu in the Ibis. When I went to reception I asked the young man at the desk where I was to sit for dinner. He promptly led me on an excursion into the Novotel and he then returned to the ibis. When I was shown the Novotel menu I realised I had been brought into the wrong place. I told the waitress I wanted the short menu in the Ibis and returned back there. I went back to the Ibis and saw the same young man. I explained that I wanted the Ibis menu for dinner and asked where I should sit. He looked bewildered and said "What do you want?" I replied "I want to know where to sit for dinner in the Ibis and to see the menu". He again retorted "What do you want?" I repeated what I'd said and he again repeated "What do you want?". I questioned his sanity at this point and immediately returned, again, over the stairs to the Novotel. I saw the same waitress I saw the first time and she showed me to a table. I explained why I had returned and said the lad on reception in the Ibis seems to have some problem in understanding me so please may I see the menu. She politely showed me the Novotel menu but said "I need to tell you before we go that the following items are not available". From memory this amounted to 50% of the menu. I said that's just as well as I'd like the ham pie please with a calamari starter. She then disappeared. I should add that there appeared to be 3 separate areas in the restaurant. Two of which were clearly set aside for large groups. The area in which I was sitting was empty except for myself. After about 10 minutes then waitress returned and told me there was no ham pie. I was now left with a choice between fish and chips and some curry. I opted, reluctantly, for the fish and chips. I then waited. There appeared to be only one other person waiting on tables beside this girl and their attention was divided between attending to a large party (occupying one of the areas previously described) and otherwise in hurriedly laying out the vacant area for what I presume was another large group that was due imminently. On a couple of occasions I signaled my concern about when my starter was to be brought to the table. Eventually after 40 minutes it arrived. However just as I vegan my second mouthful of my starter my main course was delivered ! I obviously protested that it was ridiculous to bring the main course in parallel with the starter. The waitress offered to take the fish and chips and sit them under a heat lamp. I declined her offer expecting that it would be dried out and ruined by this heat lamp. I hurriedly ate the calamari and the fish and chips to avoid them going cold. I should add that the food itself was pleasant. But the experience was marred by the service by which it was presented. I observed to the waitress that the establishment was clearly not geared up to deal with individual customers such as myself and rather was designed to cater for large groups, and in that case it was grossly understaffed. I would have sooner have been politely turned away and told that they weren't in a position to provide dinner than to have been stuck with what I experienced. I ensured the experience it being a Saturday night in Glasgow, where I would have been hard pressed to find any alternative at that time.

Excellent value and excellent stay

Stayed here on Sat 7th. Room was perfect - spotlessly clean, and the linens looked (and felt) brand new. Plenty of sockets in the room (including next to the bed), and ample towels/toiletries provided. I opted for room-only, so can't comment on the breakfast - but the food available in the hotel is wonderful. Got back around 9:30 - I think the kitchen had started to close, but was able to order a pizza as the pizza oven seemed to be front-of-house in the bar. Turned out there was an issue with the oven, so the gentleman in the bar (who also checked me in) offered to have it cooked at a hotel/resteraunt next door - queue him running past a few minutes later with a raw pizza, and coming back in another 10 with one of the best plates of food I've had in a hotel. Special shoutout to the two women who seemed to be the nightshift for Saturday - lovely and chatty, and seemed to deal with the gaggle of people coming in after drinking (including me!) like it was nothing. 5/5, and likely to stay here again next time I'm in Glasgow.
