Stratford Ibis remains a favourite place to stay on visits. Location is superb with respect to shops, restaurants and transportation. Above all, staff are very friendly and efficient. The hotel was recently redecorated distastefully, compared to what it was. The welcoming ambience provided by a reception desk on entry to the hotel has disappeared. There is no more a reception desk and receptionists simple wander around attending to guests without a desk. The corridors to the rooms are bland and dull with shades of grey paint on walls and doors. Previously, they were lively with the contrast of minty green doors against cream walls. The rooms are now equally gloomy with predominantly grey walls and doors. The bedside lamps are hideous with cables dangling from the ceiling to loop the lamps. A mural on the wall around the television depicting a wall unit is childish and classless. The toilet is immaculate white and a rescue to the generally poor decor of the rooms. But this was again marred by another mural in black consisting of caricatures of toilet items such as comb, hair dryer, brush, etc. It is hoped the hotel will be rescued from this round of ill-conceived interior decoration, with the next opportunity. The beauty of this hotel was badly missed on this visit. The consolation is that the staff and services remained top.
