Budget hotel, and it is. That said the staff were 1st class, incredibly responsive and helpful always with a smile. The shower brilliant. Location was pretty much perfect and breakfast was more than acceptable. I guess the reservation was that it would have been nice to have a few shelves or wardrobe rather than live out of a case but if you were staying overnight, its perfect . I would use it again for sure.

I was disappointed - when we booked it I knew it was a budget hotel, but I'd stayed in Ibis hotels before and although they'd be plain, they'd be really clean and good quality. However this one was more akin to a hostel. The room itself was in really poor condition. The bathroom smelt really badly of damp, the shower cubicle was really cracked and the tiles badly needed replacing. The bedroom was completely soulless. Later on in the trip we stayed at a Novotel which was £15 more expensive that this room and it was a totally different class. If I had paid £20 per night for this room I'd have expected something of this quality but I won't be staying in an Ibis Budget again.

For a one night stopover this is just about ok, although for €50 not that cheap. Great location, we were able to walk into town for a bite to eat which was a godsend after a long day stuck in the car! Room was poor though, scruffy, bit dirty, the whole hotel needs a make over. Parking in the side road if spaces (make sure you have moved it by 8.30am the following day).

My wife and I were staying for one night in preparation for a very long drive next day but sleep was difficult to come by. We had to have the window open as the air conditioning was not working, and on that particular night city noise was extreme until about 2 in the morning. Staff spoke good English for those with no French and they were also friendly and polite (though the lad on reception admitted there was nothing he could do about the air conditioning). Price was about £52 including a simple continental breakfast so these hotels do not break the bank and they are invariably clean with good facilities - including free wi-fi. This was a city centre location (Ibis Budget are also sited on the peripheries of cities and this type have good free parking) but the small car park was full and we had to make alternative arrangements which meant some heavy bag carrying over a longish distance. The upside though, was, you get to stay in a city which has far more atmosphere and good restaurants unlike the out of town hotels which are exceedingly sterile.

Not the cleanest Ibis Budget I've stayed in, especially the bathroom. Could do with some renovation. Finding a parking space was easier than expected: if you're lucky you can park your car in the small street next to the hotel or there's a (paid but very affordable) car park under the shopping mall just 300m away.

We found Angouleme hard to navigate and the hotel would have been incredibly difficult to locate without a sat nav, but even so we found more information could have been provided on parking. In the end we had to park up and check in before we learnt that we there is no dedicated car parking but that the nearby multi-storey serving the shopping mall is incredibly reasonable (5 euros per 24 hours), well lit, clean and manned by ticket machines and guards which was reassuring. The room was basic and clean but very few of the tv channels worked (we attributed this to the heat), luckily the air con DID work and the door was controlled by a code rather than key or card which gave us an added sense of security. The bathroom was disappointing, incredibly cramped, the toilet seat was broken as was the toilet roll holder, but as we were just there the one night we didn't make a big issue of it. Would I recommend it again or stay there again? probably not, but only because we found driving into the centre of town and finding the hotel/parking too stressful and we would instead stay out of town if we visited the region again.

The Ibis hotel was very comfortable and located near to the city centre. So to walk 5 minutes up the hill to the city was easy and pleasant. The resturant at the bottom of the the hill, the Terminus Resturant had a good selection of traditional cooking, while it took 8 minutes to walk down to it, the 10 minutes up the hill allowed for a good strecth after dinner.
