Everything worked... Better to check in on-line if you are going to arrive late. With the reception closed, it was a bit of a struggle to go through all the right procedures to open the gate to the car park. The room was very quiet
I do not know what has happened to the budget Ibis's i recent years but the smell of cleaning products or 'air freshener' has got worse and worse. Even leaving the window open for the afternoon did not get rid of it. On entry it was so bad that my eyes stung and I feel really sorry for the staff who breath in these foul chemicals everyday. Sadly we have decided not to use these hotels in future which is a shame as we are happy with a basic hotel and without the smell they would be fine.
Pleasant room, comfortable bed and surprisingly quiet on our night. Shower small but ample and just right for 2 weary motorcyclists..clean room and we will use this again instead of Calais. Thank you.
On arrival, our room absolutely stank of horrible chemicals - a lemony air freshener or perhaps cleaning chemicals. It was so unpleasant that we had to open the window and leave again, though the smell never entirely disappeared. The fittings are what you might expect of a Budget brand, a bit cheap, though the price didn't strike me as particularly 'budget.' Not somewhere I'd like to stay again. Also, I managed to leave something in my room and it has been hopeless trying to get that item returned. No response to emails, and unhelpful customer services. Not the first time I've had a poor Ibis experience.
You know, I read some negative opinions which inspired me to try this place. Actually it was rather OK. But I gave the average because there was no simple "good". The reception was kind and helpful. We had no time for breakfast due to the early ferry. However, I would point some issues which could further improve thi hotel. In general, we know that the Ibis hotels have good noise protecting windows, maybe this may come here later, ( to be honest, we are a bit sensitive, so other may not notice this). The bed (we had a bunk bed setting), why there is no automatically a selection option for two couvets, it is not obvious that everybody want to sleep under one couvets. Combining with the double size blankets with the additional one from the bunk bed is not so good due to the limited space. Please consider the new settings in several Ibis budget hotels the twin beds. (E.g. Würzburg) Anyway, the room was clean and practical, we found the hotel easily, and except our problem to sleep in this "double" bed there is nothing to complain. Maybe, next time, it would be good to have an option for asking at least the partial twin setting. But I would encourage the real twin beds.
Subject: Ibis Budget Dunkerque Grande Synthe Location: Grande-Synthe, Nord, Hauts-de-France, France, Europe Title: WORST IBIS HOTEL IN FRANCE ID#: 462227520 Dear Customer Services I am writing to you to raise an issue this Hotel The issue that we/I have experienced is: We booked a night @ ibis budget Hotel Grande Synthe in Dunkirk, as normal had to pay prior to obtaining access to the hotel, we had been allocated room 205, upon entry we were disgusted by the amount of dirt/dust on the floor around the bed, on further inspection we found urine stains around the fixture of the toilet seat to the bowl, to crown it all my wife cleaned her teeth prior to going out, took the plastic beaker to unwrap it from the sealed cellophane packing only to find that the glass must have been washed and resealed as the glass still had dried toothpaste on the inside of it. Having just finished Chemo not impressed with this hotel. nobody was around to complain to so we only used the bed facility during the night. IF YOU THINK OF USING THIS HOTEL THINK AGAIN THERE ARE BETTER IBIS HOTELS WITHIN 13 MILES
The hotel is located near the highway (2 minutes by car) but we didn't hear any noice from the traffic. Very nice room, small, but cheap, clean, the bunk bed had already all bed linen on and was very easy to make it up, we just had to pull the duvet and cushion from a bag - have never seen this before. Hotel has private free car park and as all Ibis hotels it is very easy to check in and get the access codes.
Arrived late at night. Automatic check-in worked well - no problems. Did not hear any noises during the night - so quiet (I guess). Staff in the morning friendly and efficient. I will use this hotel again.
thankfully we only stayed one night here before getting a ferry the next morning. the room was satisfactory and was clean. the staff were surly and gave incorrect information when we arrived about where we could get some dinner - everywhere they suggested was closed! staff member at breakfast had a terrible attitude - rude and disinterested when any questions were asked. the breakfast was terrible - hardly anything to eat and none of it fresh - the cake was dry and stale. we thought the cost of 65 euros was actually poor value for money!
quiet, secure car park and comfortable accommodation, typical basic Ibis Budget, but everything you need for a quick overnight stop; good eating nearby at the quirky Crocodile: good blend of french ambience and american diner style — the best of both
Easy to find and what you would expect from a budget Ibis hotel. Self check-in was straightforward and the room clean and sufficient for our needs. But the biggest surprise was the lighting, very modern but I won't spoil the wonderful surprise the shower gave us.
This basic hotel is very convenient for the port, large supermarket and Restaurants , and not too far from the town of Dunkerque. It is also very easy to locate-just off the A16 motorway. It is comfortable and the breakfast is adequate.
A basic hotel but clean with a good shower good breakfast and friendly staff. If catching a ferry then allow 15 mins at normal times 30 at rush hour.Close to a commercial centre with supermarket petrol station and restaurants
stayed one night on our way to the euro tunnel. Room was tidy and clean a bit small but adequate for a one night stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. stairs and corridor to rooms could do with brightening up. would consider using again on another trip as it was good value for money.
As always with all hotels, I stipulate that I require (not just request) a non-smoking room. This is because I am allergic to cigarette smoke and typically get a violent headache and can't sleep. I was therefore very surprised that my room smelled of cigarette smoke. This was initially found to be coming from the build up of cigarette smoke within the TV. That night, we also found out that the smell was also coming from the pillow on the bunk bed. After complaining on-line (because the Receptionist didn't speak English), we were offered 10% off our next booking. So, 4 Euros appears to be this hotel's value of a good night's sleep.
Convenient budget stop-over location that is open for check-in 24 hours. Arrived at 01:30 at night and used the automatic entry/check-in booth. Room was modern, although small. Breakfast is good with high quality croissants, as befitting a French establishment. Although there was a no-smoking sign in the room, the smell told us it had been ignored. We needed to make up the 3rd bunk bed above the double bed ourselves with the bedding that had been placed on it.
The hotel is a bit run down, it's in need of a good overhaul. People in the room nextdoor were skyping with the window open, so we could hear everything, although we didn't understand a word of it, makes it difficult to sleep though.
Cheap and cheerful, but the property is now a bit dated. the room was clean and comfortable but no lift and the stairs felt a bit narrow. Breakfast was good, but the breakfast room is a bit awkward to negotiate. No restaurants nearby so a car trip if you want to eat an evening meal and have not brought a picnic (which many others had).
This hotel was third Ibis hotel we have visited during our recent trip to Europe. In comparison to the other two, this hotel was very basic, although not the cheapest. When I booked the hotel, I was provided with the code which I could not enter at the hotel gates. The logging screen was inside the hotel which I was eventually able to access with the help of other residents opening main gate. Hotel does not have lift so bringing all necessary luggage to the second floor on the narrow staircase could be a bit struggle especially with 4 years old infant at your other hand. Despite of no smoking signs in the corridors, the hotel smells of tobacco smoke. The room and bathroom was clean, tidy and ready for visitors, no problems there. Breakfast was very basic and eating area small. As mentioned above, the cost and standard of this accommodation was not in line with its Ibis partners in Belgium and Germany.
The hotel was well situated for the ferry and for local amenities. The rooms were compact but clean and well arranged. Breakfast was good and well worth the cost compared to other, more expensive hotels.
