Chur is a rail hub, from which the Bernina and Glacier Express trains run, amongst many others. It is not a large town and this means that accommodation is at a premium because many people are passing through. The Ibis is just short of 2km from the train station but it is an easy walk (an easier taxi ride!) and it offers reasonably priced accommodation. Similarly priced accommodation in the town centre was predominantly shared bathroom facilities and not of a comparable standard. So, although we were slightly out of the centre, we had a reasonably sized room and bathroom and a balcony.
The staff were welcoming, rooms and public areas clean. The only downside was that it seems to be in a trading estate type location but, as we were only there on an evening, we did not suffer from any noise in this respect. There is a McDonalds downstairs, a Migros supermarket about 100 metres away and about 3 restaurants within 5 minutes walk. A bus takes you from directly outside to the town centre but we preferred to walk.
There seem to be lots of restaurants, bars and nightclubs in the town centre and I would expect that it is very busy in ski season. This may or may not be what you are looking for. It suited us perfectly as we were on a budget but needed somewhere clean and comfortable to stay whilst passing thorough.
