First impression: Ibis have updated their no frills hotel chain. Accommodation as expected was on the small side, but quite big enough. The room was very clean, well supplied, bed comfortable, décor nice (quirky). Staff friendly and efficient. Breakfast was pretty good. The pre arrival info could be better re, checking in time and car parking arrangements.
Stayed here with a group of motorbike friends prior to taking the ferry next day to Bilbao. The hotel provided comfortable, sound proofed rooms that were well equipped and very comfortable. The customer service of both the reception and bar staff could not be faulted and the location to a Wetherspoons (5 mins walk) made for the perfect evening supper. Highly recommend.
Well, it's been a while since I stayed. Since then, they clad the corridors in awful faux-rock that makes the place feel like a dungeon. Some genius has also done away with the reception desk and instead replaced it with a pod where scruffy looking staff hang about to look at their mobiles. Not welcoming at all. Breakfast still a rip-off but at least they use proper plates now instead of the bathroom tiles that they used to. For a budget hotel it isn't even that cheap. Will look into alternatives next time.
Convenient & easy place to stay before ferry departure. Secure parking was useful even if at extra cost. Spacious lounge area. We did not eat there so cannot comment. Rooms were clean beds comfortable.
Initial error over booking sorted out quickly, service very good on reception and at breakfast. Breakfast very good. Only negative is that rooms are tiny! Beautifully clean but bathroom and bedroom are just so small.
Ibis Portsmouth is a hotel located vey near train station and centre of Portsmouth. Staff are very helpful. Rooms are quite small but they have all the main facilities you need. The breakfast is very good as well and overall it was a great experience!.
It is in central location but if more than 1 person, forget it!! Rooms are far too tiny!! Move the chair to get in bathroom, open bathroom door to get in, then when you are in, get used to turning on the spot. Watch you don't hit your arms or head on the Port hole window. If this does not worry you, don't expect wonderful cleaning of your room. We only requested our room to be serviced one day, and all they did was pull up the doona........nothing else! Downstairs area is great, but with all there is to do, you are not down stairs much. Staff were OK, but not fabulous. Car park gate was open all the time, not good enough. You pay for it, so would expect at least shut entry. So overall would suggest elsewhere. It is not all that cheap, and yes, only in rooms overnight, but there is nowhere to even unpack or open the bags except on bed. Oh forgot it is in middle of Uni buildings and noisy of a night if you want to leave your window open for fresh air.
We stayed for 2 nights during the Victorious Festival Bank holiday weekend. We paid for the early check in and managed to get the last space in the hotel car park (£7 a day which isn't bad for the city centre). The room was very cramped although nicely decorated. However, the light fixings over the bed amazed me - these are the most unsafe fixtures I have seen! Working for a blind manufacturer we know that you are to have no loose cords or chains hanging in windows, yet the lights had the cables hanging in loops just over the bed. It is a disaster waiting to happen! The room was very stuffy with only a small desk fan to cool us down, although we weren't spending too much time in the room and could just sleep with the window open. Again the bathroom was small, but I have to say that everything was nice and clean. we went for breakfast on our 2nd morning which was a mistake. Paying £9 a person we would have expected the food to be hot, but we were treated to cold hash browns, cold scrambled egg and cold bacon. We were maybe unlucky and got the food when it had been out for awhile, but there should be better facilities in place to keep the food warm. There was no alcohol being served during the weekend due to licencing issues, so we cannot comment on the bar area. All in all, I felt that our stay was very expensive for all it was. If you pay the £60/70 a night rates then this is a good, but small, hotel in the city centre - ideal for exploring Portsmouth. However, when we paid over £220 for 2 nights (room only) I found it to be a lot of money for something quite basic. The new decor is very modern and nice, and the communal areas look very good, but it isn't a top end hotel. If you want a budget hotel for a couple of nights away (and manage to get the normal, cheaper rates) then the ibis isn't a bad shout. However, when paying £110+ a night I had hoped for something a bit more.
A very nice and spacious ground floor in contrast to the extremely small rooms. I am tall, but a small build. And still the bath is so small it's a hassle to move around. With bags on the floor it was a real struggle to get in and out of the bath. The room had a bookshelf... ...drawn on the wall. Because there is no room for å bookshelf or a TV table in the room. The full english breakfast was real good quality.
As usual the Ibis hotel proved to be a great place to enjoy the delights of Portsmouth and Southsea. Since our last visit the rooms and foyer have been refurbished making them hotel modern and contemporary. Excellent breakfast. Pleasant service throughout their hotel. We will be back again in their future.
The staff were friendly on arrival and the breakfast was good. However, it was very warm and we had a window open and our room was on the first floor immediately above the smokers area which was noisey until they went in after midnight. We also found the shower room a bit small and cramped around the wc.
The welcome was fine and everything was clean and modern, but my goodness our room was so very small. One small rail to hang clothes and one quite high shelf. Adequate for one night only. The bathroom was tiny, virtually had to back in ,too claustrophobic for me. However very accommodating for our dog though there's a 10 pound change and 7 pounds for parking. So 113 pounds for one night in a tiny room with no breakfast seemed a bit expensive. No air conditioning either, room temperature 28 degrees. Location quite good for gunwharf quays but used the car for the sea front, so another 5 pound parking. No dogs allowed around the historic ships. Otherwise all dog friendly.
For a good basic hotel I thought the daily rate a bit too much. The price they asked for me was for a hotel in a superiour catergory. The location is good and the rooms are clean. The layout of the room could be better.
arrived much to my surprise with very little difficulty --I'm not known for being able to find places easily!! welcoming staff always and especially at mealtimes if one is on one's own they go out of their way to make sure that everything is fine for the guest. very accommodating with keeping luggage and making photocopies of documents. Their associated taxi company Aquacabs is also very helpful and quite well priced. All in all, an extremely lovely hotel and one that I will visit again.
Stayed for three nights and the room was too small to be truly comfortable for this length of stay. The bathroom is far too small and not suitable for a double room. This is a shame as the rest of the hotel experience is excellent with a fast, friendly check, a pleasant bar area and a good breakfast
Perfectly situated close to the centre of my home city Portsmouth. Nicely furbished with very helpful pleasant staff. It is only a short walk from the rail station which is located close to the main shopping centre in Commercial Road. Next time I come back to Portsmouth the Ibis Hotel is the first place I will want to stay!
The en suite was a little "snug". If a smaller hand wash basin had been fitted, it would give the toilet a little more room. Hotel and staff were excellent, Would definitely stay again. Very nice location central for city and port.
Nice modern interior, convenient secure parking (£7/night) and very pleasant staff. The room was small, modern and clean. Really comfortable bed and opening windows. I think for larger people (over 6ft, 20 stone rugby types for example) the bathroom might be a challenge as it is extremely compact. For us it was fine and a great price.
Was nice clean ,helpful staff . Overall a very pleasant stay , will be staying here again , food is very good in the hotel good selection of beer and gin at the bar , the staff are very friendly on check in and during my stay
At the end of the day this is a 3 Star Ibis town centre hotel. Rooms are small and functional. However, I stay there regularly and chose it above other chains because without exception the staff are so friendly and create a welcoming atmosphere. They are a credit to the Ibis brand and the Portsmouth hotel in particular.
