15 minute walk from the Historic Dockyards. Retail parks likewise. Reception area and breakfast area excellent, best Ibis to date, breakfast, everything Ibis plus. Bedroom smaller than norm, bathroom very small, walk in, back out?? Towel down in the bedroom. Cases had to sit on floor, no rack/shelf?? Hot air heating good, but air quality doubtful. Had to open window?? Sleep disturbed!!
Excellent hotel. Very well put together, aesthetically speaking, clean and cordial staff; HOWEVER, the bathroom is ridicuously small. I, actually, have never seen such tiny bathroom in my life. It is awkwardly designed. Nonetheless, it was super clean. So... it is ok for a short stay.
Tiny rooms, poorly fitted with gaps under the doors. Worst part... you can hear EVERY sound in adjoining rooms and corridors. I hope the lady in the next room with the cold feels better soon. It was tough being up all night sneezing.
I have stayed at this hotel several times and always the staff and services are professional and good quality. On this occasion, during the Christmas period, I wanted relative quiet and time to think and that is exactly what I got. Well done all.
The room was small but had everything you needed. The bed however was very hard and uncomfortable. no parking spaces available so had to pay to parking. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. Great hotel just wish I could have slept
This hotel is great advert for ibis hotels. It was very clean and tidy also quite layed back. The service from ALL the staff was first class. The room was nice with comfotable beds , but the toilet was a bit cramped. The food was very good to a point , but our ham sandwiches were not of suitable standard we expected. If we return to Pompey one day we will use this hotel again without doubt.
The hotel was clean and fine for a travel stop but the rooms and restaurant were freezing, it's not normal that everyone in the restaurant eats dinner wearing their over coats. The temperature inside the hotel is not acceptable.
Fantastic service, clean efficient hotel, great practical room. Just what we wanted! The staff were very friendly and showed a great level of customer service. I've stayed here a few years ago and following the refurbishment its 100 times better. Highly recommend.
A very pleasant hotel that catered for our needs on a weekend trip to Portsmouth. We were on an annual Christmas dinner outing with the Windsor Puffers, taking in the 'dockyard derby, Portsmouth vs Plymouth football match. The hotel staff were very helpful for taxis and directions around the area, as well as being very proffessional at their posts..
Hotel was ideally situated, short walk from the railway station and very close to the university. Room was clean, shower room was very cramped but everything worked and bed was comfortable (although it has been a while since I have been in a hotel with a single bed)
The check in was quick and efficient. Friendly and helpful staff. Good value for money. I really like the free use of wifi. The room and bathroom was a little to small and the bathroom mirror was cleaned with a towel because there was fluff all over the mirror.
Great staff, very friendly and helpful - nice room and good breakfast - very local to town centre and shops - parking OK once you understand how it works, you need to book your car in when you arrive.
First impression: Ibis have updated their no frills hotel chain. Accommodation as expected was on the small side, but quite big enough. The room was very clean, well supplied, bed comfortable, décor nice (quirky). Staff friendly and efficient. Breakfast was pretty good. The pre arrival info could be better re, checking in time and car parking arrangements.
Stayed here with a group of motorbike friends prior to taking the ferry next day to Bilbao. The hotel provided comfortable, sound proofed rooms that were well equipped and very comfortable. The customer service of both the reception and bar staff could not be faulted and the location to a Wetherspoons (5 mins walk) made for the perfect evening supper. Highly recommend.
Well, it's been a while since I stayed. Since then, they clad the corridors in awful faux-rock that makes the place feel like a dungeon. Some genius has also done away with the reception desk and instead replaced it with a pod where scruffy looking staff hang about to look at their mobiles. Not welcoming at all. Breakfast still a rip-off but at least they use proper plates now instead of the bathroom tiles that they used to. For a budget hotel it isn't even that cheap. Will look into alternatives next time.
Convenient & easy place to stay before ferry departure. Secure parking was useful even if at extra cost. Spacious lounge area. We did not eat there so cannot comment. Rooms were clean beds comfortable.
Initial error over booking sorted out quickly, service very good on reception and at breakfast. Breakfast very good. Only negative is that rooms are tiny! Beautifully clean but bathroom and bedroom are just so small.
Ibis Portsmouth is a hotel located vey near train station and centre of Portsmouth. Staff are very helpful. Rooms are quite small but they have all the main facilities you need. The breakfast is very good as well and overall it was a great experience!.
It is in central location but if more than 1 person, forget it!! Rooms are far too tiny!! Move the chair to get in bathroom, open bathroom door to get in, then when you are in, get used to turning on the spot. Watch you don't hit your arms or head on the Port hole window. If this does not worry you, don't expect wonderful cleaning of your room. We only requested our room to be serviced one day, and all they did was pull up the doona........nothing else! Downstairs area is great, but with all there is to do, you are not down stairs much. Staff were OK, but not fabulous. Car park gate was open all the time, not good enough. You pay for it, so would expect at least shut entry. So overall would suggest elsewhere. It is not all that cheap, and yes, only in rooms overnight, but there is nowhere to even unpack or open the bags except on bed. Oh forgot it is in middle of Uni buildings and noisy of a night if you want to leave your window open for fresh air.
We stayed for 2 nights during the Victorious Festival Bank holiday weekend. We paid for the early check in and managed to get the last space in the hotel car park (£7 a day which isn't bad for the city centre). The room was very cramped although nicely decorated. However, the light fixings over the bed amazed me - these are the most unsafe fixtures I have seen! Working for a blind manufacturer we know that you are to have no loose cords or chains hanging in windows, yet the lights had the cables hanging in loops just over the bed. It is a disaster waiting to happen! The room was very stuffy with only a small desk fan to cool us down, although we weren't spending too much time in the room and could just sleep with the window open. Again the bathroom was small, but I have to say that everything was nice and clean. we went for breakfast on our 2nd morning which was a mistake. Paying £9 a person we would have expected the food to be hot, but we were treated to cold hash browns, cold scrambled egg and cold bacon. We were maybe unlucky and got the food when it had been out for awhile, but there should be better facilities in place to keep the food warm. There was no alcohol being served during the weekend due to licencing issues, so we cannot comment on the bar area. All in all, I felt that our stay was very expensive for all it was. If you pay the £60/70 a night rates then this is a good, but small, hotel in the city centre - ideal for exploring Portsmouth. However, when we paid over £220 for 2 nights (room only) I found it to be a lot of money for something quite basic. The new decor is very modern and nice, and the communal areas look very good, but it isn't a top end hotel. If you want a budget hotel for a couple of nights away (and manage to get the normal, cheaper rates) then the ibis isn't a bad shout. However, when paying £110+ a night I had hoped for something a bit more.
