Needed to stay in Birmingham New St between train connections so selected this as, given the hotel name has "Birmingham New St" in the title, assumed it was actually at the station... Its only 7 mins walk, if you know where you are going, but after getting off a long train at 11 pm it was unwelcome discovery! Hotel was clean and functional, as might be expected for Ibis, with friendly staff!
We stayed here for a short city break for 3 nights. The hotel was comfy, the breakfast was superb and all the staff were really friendly and really helpful. The rooms and bathrooms were on the small side but it was a very good price and really good central location for seeing things or eating out. So all of this deserves 5* - however the hotel seems to be located above a bar / club - we were on the 2nd floor and the noise still came up through the floor until the early hours. If you want to party yourself it's fine but if you want to go to sleep by midnight or before then you have a problem - the music certainly went on well into the early hours of the morning. I imagine there would be some rooms where this wouldn't be a problem - but we were at the end of a corridor and it certainly was....
there was a good stay in the hotel, very good staff, very helpful, breakfast OK, nothing extra, but good. the only thing that is not acceptable is the individual club just near the hotel, that is working till the deep night. I will probably not choose this hotel next time in Birmingham.
I spent a weekend in Birmingham and I liked it a lot! I didn't know the city when I arrived, so I spent my time asking for directions. When I finally did find the hotel, it turned out to be an Ibis Budget hotel and I had to go back to the one I had booked. At the end, all went well. The staff is very nice and helpful, and I even caught myself speaking Spanish (shout out to Rubén). When you do go to Birmingham, I recommend you this hotel. You won't be disappointed!
The staff were very friendly and helpful. As I had checked in online, my key was waiting. The room was clean. As I have stayed at Ibis hotels before, I was familiar with the room and bathroom. There is coffee and tea ready to use. The hotel is in the Chinese Quarter, a few minutes walk from the markets and the rear entrance to Debenhams. The breakfast was good and my porridge arrived fairly quickly. The buffet offerings were good; you can have as much or little as your appetite demands. There are a number of teas on offer as well as other drinks.
Friendly staff, very welcoming. Hotel was clean enough, food was much better than other Ibis Hotels I've visited. Room was quiet and clean. Bed was very comfortable and I had a good night's sleep. Only issue was in the morning, after breakfast, when I couldn't get back into my room and had to come down to reception again. They reactivated my key, which solved the problem. All in all, a decent stay for a reasonable price, within walking distance of New Street Station and surrounded by very tempting Chinese restaurants!
The hotel was adequate for the price category. It is not really situated near New St, but is closer to Chinatown and the Bull Ring. The room TV selection was limited (especially given the plethora of channels now available in the UK on Freeview). Some TV channels were blank. BBC3 was still listed even though this channel had been taken of (terrestrial) transmission about a year ago and is only now available as an internet channel; a number of channels in the German ZDF bouquet were blank. Service was good but not exceptional. I had checked in prior to arrival, but still had to wait for my room number and card on arrival.
Decent room with comfortable bed, quiet allowing for a good night's sleep. Tasty breakfast with plenty of choice of hot and cold foods. Ideally located for me, two minutes walk from the Birmingham Hippodrome and five minutes from New Street Station.
I attended a seminar at the hotel which necessitated a 2 night stay. Was well satisfied with the comfort, cleanliness and service. The room was small but adequate and was worth the money paid It was central to shops and leisure facilities and within walking distance of the station I would definitely use it again. I also felt safe and welcomed.
The noise of the pubs needs to be looked at .It goes on all night you don't get any sleep !!!! No refund was offered. The hotel is not cheap to stay and I will be looking now for another hotel in Birmingham to stay.
Was surprised that the service levels differ across same brands. I had a very pleasant stay with ibis Edinburgh royal mile hotel but had an unpleasant one with ibis Birmingham new street. To summarise: 1. Was made to pay for bathroom slippers at Birmingham when it was complimentary at Edinburgh. 2. Almost left without my deposit returned to me as staff forgot they took a security deposit from me. 3. Was made to wait for staff to check the room condition before they let me check out with my deposit. I did not experience the same with ibis Edinburgh royal mile. 4. Surrounding area did not look too safe at night as human traffic was not high. While I appreciate that some ibis hotels live up to the brand name, there are definitely other ibis hotels that seriously need service level changes. Will not be staying at ibis Birmingham new street the next time round.
Ever since the revamp, this hotel is even more pleasant to stay at. The rooms are ok, but at a very reasonable price. The location is really good for both railway station and entertainment. But the nicest bit is the casual atmosphere and the really friendly and helpful young staff (not to forget the 24hour bar :)
I stayed for a weekend TEFL course that was being run at the hotel. I was very pleased with the standard, cleanliness, the food and accommodation. The staff were very helpful and friendly too. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone and that it is good value for money.
we always enjoy staying at the ibis it is handy for all our needs the room was very hot so we had to open the window and it was very noisey out side which is a Friday night so its to be expected also the tv needed tuning in and the remote control did not tune it in
Very pleasant stay, I am a returning customer at least twice a year. The only thing I found a bit annoying this time was the removal of the front desk. When it came to paying it got a bit chaotic and there were a few customer in a cue waiting to settle the bill.
Just five minutes from Birmingham New Street, this Ibis was set in a lively location of Chinatown while a festival was in progress, but the hubbub never encroached on my peace and quiet - in fact I popped out a couple of time to watch the live bhangra and bands playing. The hotel itself is spacious and slick with friendly, knowledgeable staff. Any queries I had were resolved quickly and cheerfully. It was an extremely hot weekend and unfortunately the unit in my room wasn't quite up to the task of keeping me cool so my sleep quality suffered, but everything else was very good. A small note: I'd like the bath towels to be bigger so they wrap all the way around and soya or nut milk/veggie/vegan alternatives out as a matter of course at breakfast but it was great to have that facility until noon, and the noon check-out.
Great location with close proximity to shops, eateries and public transport (New Street station and bus stops). Nice bright clean room/bathroom. Staff were helpful. Road outside could be slightly noisy in the wee hours of the morning.
You know what you get with Ibis. Good value, comfortable rooms, clean. The virtual reception if efficient, the bar was pretty good, and breakfast served until late. Very convenient for Birmingham New Street & Moor Street.
Hotel was very clean, staff we're very friendly and helpful. Our light was not working in our bedroom and my sister went to report it, as soon as my sister got back to our room a member of staff came to fix it. As our light could not be fixed there gave us a complimentary drink as a good will gesture which we thought was very nice of them.
Ibis always offer value for money accommodation in a convenient location. Our stay was very comfortable, however, the room was in need of some modernisation (especially the bathroom) in comparison with other Ibis locations.
