Great hotel, friendly helpful staff and brilliant location. Safe parking. Staff are always friendly and ready to help with any query. Usually stay in December when the hotel is warm and individual heat controls in room really good. This time I stayed when the temperature was high and the aircon in rooms coped amazingly well.

Close to Essen Hauptbahnhauf. Very clean. Possibility to drink beer. Ask for rooms on the street and not on the railway ! Good location for a short stay at Essen, whatever the purpose (business or holiday)

Several of us travelled for business purposes and stayed in this hotel and we all had the exact same question over dinner "how small is your bathroom?" and the comment "I don't think I can even sit on the toilet!". The bathrooms are tiny! With that said, the room was clean and adequate. The two single beds were pushed together, so it seems a double bed would make more sense here and be more comfortable. The service at the restaurant/bar was great and friendly.

The hotel is well-situated for access to the city centre, the station and offices nearby (my meeting was just on the other side of the station). However the rooms are very small and the walls very thin so your sleep will be easily disturbed, as mine was, by other guests making noise in the corridors or in their rooms - one couple somewhere in the hotel were clearly having a lot of fun and wanted everyone to know about it...

Enjoyed my first trip to Germany this October for Spiel, in Essen. Stayed at the Ibis. The rooms were cozy and clean. Despite the room I rented was facing out towards the train station it was very sound proof. The staff were friendly and excellent.

All services very good. People very kind and courtesy. Kitchen very good and food made very professional. Cleaness of the hotel and the rooms very well done. Keep the service and I that have the Gold card will be your guest forever.

A very good hotel, which services are compatible with the price. A very good location, close to the train station and to the main stores and restaurants. In the next opportunity, I certainly will go to this hotel

Hotel was good value and staff were very helpful however the room was very small and bathroom even smaller. We stayed 2 days and did not dine in the hotel with the exception of breakfast which was ample. We would return in the future.

Rooms are very small. Bathrooms are tiny. Nice lobby. Free wifi. Parking is only €10/night. The hallways smell like cigarette smoke even though it is supposed to be a non-smoking hotel. Was very clean

The nice thing about this hotel is that it's quite central (it's about a 3-minute walk from the main trainstation and the city square). It has a good enough wi-fi (which is very important and seemingly very hard to find in Germany, unless you pay for it). The room is a bit small, so I don't think it's so good if you're not travelling alone. The bathroom is also very small, but it's clean. Anyway, if you're only going to sleep there and spend the rest of the day strolling around, by all means, stay at Ibis Hbf. It's good enough. The breakfast, in my opinion, is not worth 11 euros. I often went to the Train station and bought breakfast at Dunkin' Donuts. Overall it's a good hotel and I already have another booking there. So, what can I say. It's good.

For a number of years now we have been using this hotel to split our return trip home after our annual family holiday. This year we had a major problem as my wife took ill during the holiday and we decided to return home early. I emailed ahead to change the original booking, fully expecting to have to pay the full cost of the booking again because of the way I had paid originally. I was informed when arriving at reception this would not be the case and I was not charged one extra penny. I will very definately continue to use Accor hotels for any future trips as their customer service is second to none

Nicely located Ibis just a few minutes walk from Essen Hbf main station. so easy to get to coming by train. Usual good rooms with Ibis Sweet bed comfort. Plenty of shops and facilities at station nearrby

The Hotel is described as a Train Station Hotel, but although it is by the Train tracks, it is about 300 meters from the Train Station. Plus it is not really sign posted, or visible until you get really close so if you book there, come out of the City Centre entrance of the Train Station & turn right & after 3-4 minutes walk you will be there. The Hotel is advertised as "newly renovated", but at least in my room it was already showing signs of wear; one of the bedside lights needed a little fiddling with the switch to go between half & full light, & one of the adjusters for the Shower Head Holder was stripped so the only way to get water on you was hold the head itself in one hand. I only discovered these problems 1) on going to bed 2) on getting up, so no point to go through the fuss of a room change! Staff were great, though.

If you want to receive the worst room, you need to be a member of accor hotel and list you preferences. For me is important the room near the elevator, but we received a room in the end of the corridor! Room and bathroom was extremely small. Only one towel per person( Bed was very comfy it is the main advantage of this hotel. Parking at the hotel 7,5EUR, but there are a lot of free parking places at the other side of train rails (5 minutes by foot).

Positive points: breakfast very diverse with croissants, eggs, fruits, good orange juice and excellent hot chocolate. The room possesses a separate bathroom, the bathtub is quite large. Staff is very welcoming and helpful. Bed of best comfort! Negative points: very tiny access to the toilet, no boiling machine

Excellent location with helpful staff and good clean rooms. Road/rail noise could be a problem but this hotel is located right in the city and so closeness to shopping centre makes up for it. Brilliant Christmas market

We spent a Nice Week End in Essen. People at Ibis is very nice. Had a great "Night" Pizza in the Hotel made especially for us at 1:00 am. Full Breakfast is also very nice with a lot of choice Thank you very much

I was there with a friend for one night only and for a short period the hotel is great. The personal was very friendly and helped out in everything. The room was not really big, basically a bed and a small bathroom. Not much elbow room, but for a few nights you don't really need more. The only negative is that parking is very limited (the hotel has only space for a small number of cars). It was our second trip to Essen and both times we had to wait for someone else to leave to get a parking space.

The hotel closed the tables area on Sunday night and we couldn't play like the other days during the yearly Spiel fair. Also, they showed no flexibility when we asked to move one table to the lobby in a corner because they would need to do it for everybody.

Stayed in a twin room - the beds touched side by side and there was no room to move them. The ensuite was tiny, with barely room for your knees when sitting on the toilet, and a shower cubicle that filled with water and over-ran on to the floor. The room was uncomfortably warm and had a unit that claimed to be A/C and heating, but would only heat, not cool. We therefore had to have the window open (in late October!) and got woken up by shouting yobs, street cleaning vehicles etc. Cheap but exceptionally basic.
