Hotel was warm and staff very friendly, hotel was well situated. Room was warm with a nice cosy bed. The bar was friendly and warm with pleasant staff. We did not have a meal , but resturant looked very good.. Stay was spoilt with wTer in room only just warm , so poor shower and washing facilities.
Although we regularly stay at the Mercure in Caen we thought we would try the IBIS for a change. Rooms are smaller but spotless and very comfortable for a one night stay but the wooden laminate floors do suffer from condensation when the room is cold making the floor feel wet when you have no shoes on. Bathroom was perfect and in some ways better than the Mercure which has many rooms fitted with large cereal bowls as wash basins! Staff are great and welcoming and breakfast was good also. This is a great budget hotel well located in the centre of Caen with plenty of good eateries around and benefitting from a large underground car park on site.
Stayed for 7 nights. Loads of restaurants nearby. Breakfast excellent. I used the Hotel underground car park which I found very convenient. Room was quiet and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. If I was staying in Caen again I'd definitely use this hotel again.
An excellently positioned budget hotel, with parking under it - although if you take too long getting out the ticket doesn't work and it is too easy to reverse into a column!! However, an easy walk to excellent beer speciality bars, Le Trappist and the Delerium Bar - also a range of excellent small eating places - French, Spanish and Creperie. An easy drive to the D-Day military sites and cheaper than Bayeaux.
Comfortable, clean and well appointed hotel in Caen town centre with underground parking. Attentive staff who distributed discount vouchers for the main museum. Attached restaurant is not part of the Ibis Group but served both a good breakfast and dinner.
Friendly, helpful, informed reception. Buffet breakfast with a reasonable choice of hot and cold dishes. Decent sized room with very comfortable bed and excellent shower. Everything worked, everything clean. Nowt to complain about
Could not be in a better position in town,.excellent position for the Sunday Market just outside the front door .Also close to all the historic sites. Safe underground parking Hotel itself is very good clean ,staff helpful. Well worth staying here.
We were booked in for 5 of us, but one did not make it. Staff were helpful and sorted the rooms and parking for our motorcycles on site. Location is second to none. The market in the square opposite excellent, great bars and restaurants all around.
Everything about our stay was good. The location is charming, easy to get to (by car) and from, and close to the centre of town. We had made a mistake with our first booking, which the cancelation email said could not be refunded because it was a special price, but the receptionist talked to the manager for us, and they decided to refund it anyway. So wonderfully nice staff too.
Ideal location for visiting the centre of Caen. Hotel staff friendly with parking at/under the hotel an option(12 euros a night). Breakfast was plentiful for a continental breakfast even when there was only a few eating. Getting a cup of coffee/tea was an issue.
Stayed here twice - good location reasonably close to ferry terminal and near some lovely restaurants. First visit great, Laurianne on reception was excellent. Sadly the same could not be said a week later. We needed to leave at 7am to catch a ferry - we tried to check out from 6am onwards, as did another couple who we kept meeting at the IBIS desk. Eventually we were informed by the breakfast staff (which started at 6.30, why not match this to your reception hours ?) that reception did not open until 7.30? It was finally a cleaner who told us that we should use the Mercure reception attached, to check out. We then experienced the rudest man (irritated I didn't get his name but by now 7.15 and I had a crying baby under my arm) who when I commented that we were rushing for a ferry purposely went as slowly as possible and said "well you should have got up earlier then as you wouldn't have put yourself under this pressure". Yes, thanks for that you unempathetic, ignorant rude man. Here is an idea - perhaps a) you shouldn't work in a customer facing role early in the morning if you are not a morning person b) you shouldn't be customer facing at all if you have an attitude problem and can't help telling people what you think and c) perhaps putting a sign on the IBIS reception desk directing customers to the Mercure desk in the adjacent building would be a good idea as we are not mind readers! In short, thanks Laurianne for being the IBIS receptionist from heaven, no thanks to the idiot who checked us out who frankly seemed pleased we may miss our ferry home!! Not the lasting impression we wanted.
Good location. Closed parking which is chargeable. Afew minutes walk to the town centre. The harbour is in front of the hotel. Plenty of choice or restaurants near to the hotel. A Court Paille restarant attached to the hotel. Good selection for breakfast. Comfortable bar, shared with Mercure hotel (same building as Ibis). Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and beds very comfortable. Have stayed before and will stay again.
Stayed here a number of times, excellent value, clean, central, underground car park which is quite large. Ample parking in the square outside as well. Only one complaint - and this is the first time I've experienced it. Two friends who had other rooms complained of loud noise from the street behind due to a late opening bar. This was on Fri, sat nights.
Had one night stay here, due to leaving on the ferry the next morning. There was everything we needed and very helpful staff. The room is small but comfortable with lovely shower - no tea and coffee facilities in the room. Car parking is underneath the building [a fee applies] or adjacent in the public car park. The hotel is located next to the canal basin and attractive docks. It is a 10 minute walk from the train station and car hire office. There are many eating places nearby but we ate in the restaurant.
We arrived in this hotel for a four-night stay in mid-September. This was our first time driving in France so everything about the trip was nerve-wracking to start with. From the moment we stepped inside this hotel we were given a warm welcome, reassurance and assistance with any questions we had and even help with finding a vet for our small dog who needed to be cleared for the return journey. Our first major concern was secure parking - this is available at the front of the hotel in what seems to be a local authority meter-paid car park. However, from a side street you can enter the hotel's indoor secure car park which is ten euro per night. We took the latter option for security and it worked out fine. The hotel could not be in a better location. It is directly in the centre of the city, walking distance from Caen Castle, several of the big historic churches and the tram and bus services stop just across the square. There are many many restaurants of all price ranges within easy reach. Caen itself is a lively but also relaxed city and not as frantic as the bigger urban centres in France. Our hotel room was beyond spotless, all fixtures and fittings perfect. Yes, French hotel rooms are that bit smaller than those in other countries and that was the case here. The food in the hotel was also fine. We tended to eat out but there was a good wide selection at breakfast to suit almost every taste and we went back for seconds! So the top things about this hotel in no particular order - friendly staff, cleanliness, secure parking, location, location, location. And by the way, we are super-fussy!
I stayed at the Ibis in Caen and all was pleasant until bed time. Could not sleep for I was next door to a noisy electric motor. I was going to complain but the reception was not open at 06:30in the morning. I wrote to the Hotel, but have had no reply. Solution, do not stay in rooms 97 and 99 on the ground floor.
Hotel very good but attached restaurant, a franchise not manned by Ibis personnel, was fairly disorganised. The food was ok but the young people providing service were unsupervised, often clueless and at times rude to their customers. If I visit the hotel again I'll skip the attached eating house.
Not forgetting this is a budget hotel so it offers excellent value for money. It couldn't be in a better location, right in the centre of Caen with secure, underground parking (charged at 10 euros per night). All-you-can-eat breakfast buffet was excellent; not full English but lots of fresh bread, pastries, cheese and cold meats. The rooms are very small but adequate for a couple of nights. Bathroom towels could be a bit thicker and bigger but a minor point.
Very clean and comfortable hotel, situated right in the centre of Caen. We stayed on a Saturday night and on the Sunday morning we stepped out of hotel, straight into the huge market. Underground parking is secure and convenient.
Ibis Caen centre is an ideal location from which to stroll around the centre of the city and see the main sites. Breakfast was good and the on-site car park was very useful (parking in the centre of Caen is difficult - there are cars parked everywhere!). Our room was quite small but the beds were extremely comfortable and the bathroom was excellent.
