We stayed in the ibis Alencon for one night on our way back to the UK as it was a convenient distance from Calais. We had previously stayed at the Ibis hotels in Bayonne and La Rochelle which had been recently updated and, in comparison, this one, looked a little worn. Apart from that the hotel is perfectly adequate and the facilities are good. Situated very near the old town and cathedral and with very welcome free car parking. The rooms are good and the staff were helpful and efficient. The breakfast varied slightly between the three hotels but all gave a good choice of food - this was the only one with a fresh orange juicer which was very welcome. We'd had a perfectly dreadful, centrally produced and badly heated up, dinner at the Ibis Bayonne and the advertised menu here was identical so we didn't take the risk - steer well clear of the Poulet en papillotte and the Gnocchi with chicken and chorizo - absolutely awful. As we didn't eat dinner there it isn't a criticism of this hotel and it would be unfair to suggest that the chef/heater up in Alencon was as inept as the one in Bayonne. Otherwise everything was what one would expect from an Ibis hotel and was very good value.
