I have now used this hotel three times when driving from Spain to the UK and vice versa. I travel from the Cista Blanca to Norwich and back, and last year I decided to change my route from Barcelona/Clermont Ferrand/Paris/Calais to the route west of the Pyrenees - i.e. via San Sebastián, Bordeaux, Rouen and Calais, mainly to avoid Paris and the dreaded Peripherique. So, was looking for a convenient hotel about halfway, and found this with decent reviews on Trip Advisor. It's very convenient, just two minutes off the A630 close to Bordeaux Merignac airport, and easy to find. It has good, secure parking. The hotel is what you would expect of an Ibis - no frills, and the rooms are relatively basic, but the beds are comfortable, there is free, and reasonably quick, WiFi. It has kind of an intimate feel about it, as the reception area is essentially part of the bar and small restaurant. Each time I have been there all the staff have been unfailingly friendly and helpful. I was given a particular room whose location I liked the first time I visited, and on both subsequent occasions my request for that same room has been met with no problem at all. The restaurant is fine for an evening meal - decently priced for both food and wine, though the standard breakfast won't really appeal to those of the "full English" persuasion - more of an upmarket continental, though the actual produce was good and fresh. There are other hotels and restaurants close by if the Ibis's own restaurant doesn't appeal or palls. Again, as you'd expect, there aren't many amenities - outside areas to sit and certainly not a pool, so I wouldn't choose this for a stray of any length, but as a stopover for one night, and with some good deals available if I book early, this is just about ideal for what I want.
