This is the second year running that my husband and I have stayed for a week in this hotel at the start of the New Year - that in itself shows how much we enjoyed it.
We are great fans of the ibis chain of hotels, choosing them wherever possible for our frequent stays in France, and the one at Montpellier Centre Comédie is our favourite of them all.
Reception staff -
As soon as we arrived, we had a warm and efficient welcome from Sébastien on the reception desk, who thoughtfully arranged for us to have adjoining rooms and he even came and immediately unlocked the communicating doors between them for us. He and all the staff on reception were a delight during our stay, and nothing was too much trouble for them. As we went out in the mornings, we asked at reception if they could ensure that our rooms were cleaned by 1pm when we planned to return, and every day the rooms were ready as requested. That is certainly not something we take for granted, given our experience at other hotels. The reception staff also ran the bar in the lounge, and were friendly and efficient at getting us hot chocolate on our return from dinner each evening.
Their pleasant, welcoming service set the tone for a thoroughly enjoyable stay, and made us feel personally cared-for.
The rooms are very spacious - exceptionally so, for an ibis hotel - with plenty of room for a 2-seater sofa and low table in addition to the wide double bed. The beds are wonderfully comfortable, a hallmark of ibis hotels. The bathrooms were equipped with showers that worked consistently well. Clean towels each day if you wanted, or there was the option to re-use your towels if you wanted to be environmentally-friendly. Sound-proofing was obviously effective, as we heard no noise from other rooms at all. Efficient heating/air-conditioning, which was easy to adjust (again, not something to be taken for granted).
Very central, between the central Place de la Comédie and the Polygone shopping centre. Within a few minutes of many central restaurants, shops, and the historic Old Town. Nearby is a grassy 'Esplanade', with trees and flower-beds. There are 4 tram-lines which serve all areas of Montpellier and the outskirts, including Route 1 (a few minutes from the hotel) which goes to the Odysseum Commercial Centre (with restaurants and shops) about 1/4 hour away from the city centre. This hotel is in an ideal location. We love it and will return.
