The hotel was not in Caudan despite the name. It was close to the main road but that said the sound insulation was excellent so this was not a problem. The room was comfortable and spacious. We ate in the restaurant one evening and it was excellent, but we were very disappointed to find it closed the next evening despite the notice on reception saying it was open. The only other restaurant in walking distance was not a delight!
Easy connection next to highway. Large parking. Large & quiet rooms. Good restaurant with "plat du jour" if you don't want to go out for diner. The suggestion of the day is cooked on site and changed daily.
This has to be our worst Ibis experience – it is the first time we have had to curtail our stay, 2 nights into our planned 4 night stay. According to the receptionist’s badge, she spoke English – but only by putting sentences into Google Translate and attempting to read the result. We took breakfast 2 hours before the end of service; on Sunday, service was OK, but was non-existent on Monday. Apart from just one croissant, there were no pastries or cakes; no one came to check or top up. After almost an hour, I found someone and asked her for some pain au chocolat – she said there weren’t any. Reluctantly she put on some more, but said it would take 20 minutes. The only fresh fruit on offer was apples (and oranges to make juice with). The rooms were spacious, but our room had a nasty damp odour and the beds were too hard, giving us back ache in the morning. We were told the beds were the same as the Ibis Rouge next door (not true – we went to check). WiFi did not work in the room – it was fine outside in the corridor. Apparently reception knew there was a problem but did not warn us. We asked to use the Hammam, were given the key and asked to wait 45 minutes while it warmed up. We waited, but it was still cold. When we went back to reception, she had not switched it on. Another 45 minutes later it was fine. We went on to stay in the Ibis Rouge in Honfleur – a completely different experience for about the same price. In Honfleur, the breakfast was kept topped up and there was a choice of 8 different fruits. The beds were comfortable and the staff very helpful and friendly. The swimming pool was warm and kept clean. We have stayed at other Ibis Styles before, but will steer clear of this one.
Large climate controlled bedroom, massive comfortable bed, Adequate included breakfast. Mid-day and evening meals of good quality - not week-ends and bank holidays. Well located for touring south Brittany.
Very modern hotel and rooms, nicely presented and clean. The bar and restaurant areas are also nicely laid out and patio area. We found the air con in the room a bit noisy and the buzzing finally got me out of bed to turn it off. Our meal was disappointing though. I chose a burger and basically that was all I got apart from a very small salad alongside. My wife and daughter played safe with steaks but they were both very rare and my wife's, in particular, was very fatty and rare. It proved too difficult to eat so was left. The wine was the best part of the meal but still cost over €20 a bottle. We would go again but probably eat out next time.
On the whole I was extremely disappointed. Initially we were impressed with the lobby and the speed of service BUT - Despite booking a room with a double bed and two single beds we were initially allocated a room with one double and a single bed - I reported this to the reception staff who rectified the problem immediately. - On entering the room we realised that the two single beds were in actual fact a sofa that converted into two single beds! Not as I felt it was advertised. - The quality and comfort of the main double bed was superb a far cry from the completely inadequate "pull out" beds! The mattresses on the to "pull out" were so thin that the wooden slats of the frame were felt individually through the mattress - my husband likened them to military camp bed BUT I think that this was an extremely generous comparison! - The room was extremely hot, we were unable to work the air conditioning as it didn't seem to be connected - we spent the night with the window open in an effort to achieve an acceptable room temperature which led to an night of very little sleep due to the constant noise of the very busy dual carriageway running alongside the hotel! When we reported this to the reception staff in the morning we were told that in actual fact the air conditioning was "not on yet" as it wasn't hot - I thought climate control was the guests choice and not in fact the hotels! - The main bed in room was made in such a way that when you tried to pull back the duvet to get into the bed ALL of the sheets became untucked thereby causing you to have to completely remake the bed before retiring for the night. - The "pull out" beds were made up with sheets and an extremely unflattering(Considering the effort put into the style of the rest of the hotel) brown blanket - No welcome childs gift given to my 11yr old daughter - Despite booking a room for 3 people only two bottles of drinking water left in the room Generally an appalling experience despite our high expectations - when we reported this to the lady staffing the reception the following day as we checked out she simply replied "I'm sorry there is nothing I can do as you paid in advance" she did not offer any kind of feedback facility. Would not recommend as more comfort and satisfaction could have been found in a cheaper hotel!
