The hotel is an ibis need I say more? The ibis brand has been around for a while now and the buildings are beginning to show it. They get the obligatory spruce up now and again but fail in other areas. For example, on our visit we arrived at around 4.30 pm and once inside the room noticed that the AC was reading 25 degrees C. We turned the temp down to 19 to try and get a cool blast for later that evening. We returned to the room at around 10pm, it was still at 25C. It was an amalgamation of silly little penny pinching things such as the AC and no kettle in the room that just totally ticked us off. This is either something that ibis senior management will take on, or will play Russian roulette with regard to attracting new customers. What you will find with ibis, is that a lot of its clientele are French buissiness men/women who know that there are good and bad ibis hotels (the good are in highly competitive areas), who have just got used to how it is. As an independent traveller, I for one will not e returning unless the little quirks are put right.
Bang in the centre of town, a short walk to the bars and restaurants. The underground car park was safe and secure but is an extra cost. The only issue was the entrance to the car park is very narrow and with a big car is a bit hairy to negotiate. The button on the wall to get the attention of the reception wouldn't work and I had to walk all the way up the ramp and into the hotel to alert the guy. Rooms are a bit tired. IBIS beds are really comfortable though so overall happy with the place.
Visited for 2nights after staying in the hotel (Mercure then) nearly 20years ago. The hotel looks dated from the outside but is well presented and comfortable inside. The staff are friendly and the stay was worthwhile - Ales is worth a couple of days to look around.
the room we had was in need of renovation, the curtain was hanging off at one end and had more holes in than a cullender. the bath was well worn, the staff were friendly and the location is not the best.
