There's a warming vibe to this hotel thanks to the colour palette. It's one that wouldn't look out of place in a spice market, with plum, turmeric, paprika and cinnamon set against calming creams and greys. Glimpses of gold are seen in places too - just like in a grand Indian wedding. Photography taken from travels around India is displayed across the walls of the bedrooms and corridors so that the place feels like a guidebook of another land. There are henna decorated hands uniting together around a bowl of exotic flowers; rugged muslin bags of multi-coloured spices, and artwork that whisks you away to Agra and the famous The Taj Mahal at sunrise.
India is like a continent of vivid, vibrant, and diverse countries bound together, and it never ceases to surprise and delight. With such a broad array of cuisines, customs and cultures to be found, it's no surprise. Delhi or Mumbai offer relentless metropolitan hustle and bustle, while serenity can be sought gently cruising backwaters of Kerala. The country moves to its own beat, and you can feel like you're in the centre of it all here at the ibis Styles Reading Centre hotel.
Start the day as if you were in a Bombay café with a cup of hot chai or Darjeeling.
Downstairs, there's an area for children to take a perch, practice some mediation (if only!), or read one of the books there. We highly recommend The Jungle book, and not just because of its setting. The backdrop to our kids corner is filled with friendly animals, including a pair of friendly Indian tigers.
In the evening, relax with a crisp drink of Cobra beer, and think about which curry takes your fancy. With us, you can enjoy being in the heart of Reading, but we also hope you'll leave with a little of India in your heart.
